The UK annual holiday takes place in June. Members travel by
coach and accommodation will be half or full board in a hotel. The
locations are varied and reflect the desire to provide a balance for
all the different levels of walking in the group. The club tries to
put on walks to suit easier, medium and harder levels, but it is
optional whether a member joins a led walk or chooses to do their own
thing.
The holidays are good value. The price depends on the
location and what the club has been able to negotiate. In recent years
the cost has ranged between £350 and £600 for half or full board
including transport. The coach is available during the week to
transport members to and from the walks.
There is a great atmosphere and members often arrange their own social
activities during the week.
In recent years the club has been to
the Isle of Man, Donegal in Ireland, Callander in Scotland, Criccieth
in North Wales.
Abroad Annual Holiday. We now offer a walking
holiday in Europe in September/ October.
Members often get
together to organise their own trips in smaller groups. In recent
times there have been holidays in the Dolomites, Tenerife and Malta.
Bradford Walking is the name we use for our group on the internet. We
are an established walking group also known as Bradford CHA and we
celebrated our centenary in 2003.
We were initially part of the larger CHA (Countrywide Holidays
Association) which was created to provide opportunities for working
people to enjoy the countryside and walking. Bradford CHA has been a
very successful organisation providing walking and social
opportunities for people from all walks of life for over 100 years.
We still try and push the boundaries in what we offer in the way of
walking, so that those who are fit and able can still undertake some
very challenging walks, often in areas where there are no paths and
sometimes involving some scrambling. But we cater for all walkers. If
you want a good day out on Sunday you can join our B walks which are
moderate in difficulty and we often offer C walks which are more
leisurely and shorter.
The club has a hard working committee dedicated to keeping things
running smoothly by organising the walking programme, transport,
holidays, social events, finance and advertising. A newsletter is
published every quarter. This has articles and information about
forthcoming events, holidays
We offer walks for all abilities and interests on Saturdays and Sundays.
Our members live in Bradford, the Airevalley and all surrounding areas.
