Sunday Walks

The unique aspect of our club is the coach we hire on Sunday. The Coach picks people up between Bradford and Kildwick (along the Aire Valley).  We offer 2 or 3 walks each Sunday, i.e. Easier, Medium and Harder walks, each led by an experienced Walk Leader:

Easier C walk  6 - 10 miles - May include hills but an easy pace with lots of rests.

Medium B walk 8 - 12 miles - A good solid walk can include walking over rougher ground with more ups and downs. A steady pace but with plenty of stops.

Harder A walk  9 - 15 miles -  A steady, moderate pace, sometimes over rough ground and may include some mild scrambling to reach mountain peaks.

We recommend new members start with an B or C walk. If too easy you can switch to a higher level on subsequent weeks. Please speak to the leaders if you are not sure what level you are comfortable with. Information about each walk on offer will be passed around the coach

Please look at the pick-ups shown to the right of this page. The first pickup on Route 1 is in Bradford usually at 9.00 am. Routes 2, 3 and 4 start in Keighley at 8.30 and then pick up in Bradford at 9.00. Pickups en-route included Bingley and Saltaire.

There is a charge for coming on the coach—ranging from £10 to £14 per person depending on the length of the journey. The charge covers the coach hire.

Places on the coach do not need to be booked in advance. People turn up at the different collection points and generally everyone gets on. Rarely the coach is full, in which case either people make their own way to the destination or do their own thing.

The coach enables us to do both circular and linear walks. The latter allowing us to offer quite interesting walks, which would be difficult to undertake with your own transport.

We travel frequently to the Yorkshire Dales and the Peak District but other areas include—North Yorks Moors, The Lake District, The Forest of Bowland, North Wales and the Howgills - basically anywhere suitable for walking which is accessible within a reasonable time on a Sunday.

At the end of each Sunday walk we aim to finish somewhere we can get a drink /  or something to eat. Some members like to go into a pub, others to a local café, but here there is a chance to relax, unwind and reflect on the events of the day.

The coach leaves at 5.00 pm during the winter season (Late October to April) and 6.00 pm in Summer (April to October) to return all walkers to their pickup points.

There is great variety in the walks on offer with something for everyone. You can choose to have a gentle stroll or at the other end of the scale you could be walking across moorland, challenging terrain with a lot of climbing up and down.

Although leaders are provided for all the main walks on offer, sometimes individuals in small groups or on their own choose to do their own walk. So great flexibility is available for a tremendous day out.

If you are interested in joining one of our Sunday walks and haven't been before then do get in touch with us to get a little more information. You can either make contact with one of our group  or best of all join our Meetup Website where you can become part of our community, see up-to-date information about each walk we offer and you can sign up to walks and message us for any additional information or help that you need. We can make sure that you will be welcomed when you come along for the first time and introduced to the leader and other members of the club.

Our Coach walks are good for the following reasons:

  • You can do linear walks which allow you to see much more countryside for a given walk mileage.

  • Sit back and relax while a professional does the driving. Our coach company uses comfortable and reliable vehicles with seatbelts. Look at the view, read your map, have a chat.

  • No parking problems, or "pricey" car parks - the driver takes care of parking. Enjoy your walk, wherever it finishes the coach will be waiting for you. It is easy to do a linear walk.

  • On the return journey, you can sleep if you wish, as someone else is driving. You can enjoy "drinks" at a pub or café at the end of the walk, adding to the sociability of walking with the club.

  • Leaving your car at home means no worries about the increasing cost of fuel, parking charges or the risk of car-crime. You are doing "your bit" for the environment.

  • Congestion and parking is an acknowledged problem in many of the more popular areas we visit, especially the National Parks.

  • No pre-booking is required! although newcomers would be well advised to ring or email for confirmation of pickup details!
